At Summit Construction Co., Inc. everyone’s safety is placed “Above All Else”. This simple idea has become our philosophy at Summit, enabling our personnel as well as subcontractor personnel to develop a proper attitude towards safety. Our high Safety standards are achieved through knowledge and commitment through the mantra, 'Know all that you can about the job you're doing and always practice Safety First'. Years of ZERO Injury Awards, CCS Outstanding Project Awards, and Platinum Level Safety Training and Evaluation Program Awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors proves our commitment to safety. A great deal of hard work goes into achieving these awards, and we strive to ensure that all of our policies, procedures, and efforts drive towards an end result of zero incidents/injuries.


Everyone plays a significant role in the success of our safety program from the President to Project Management, from the Superintendent to the Tradesmen. The objective and responsibility at Summit is to provide employees with the freedom to achieve in an atmosphere conducive to this spirit.


Safety training is provided in a classroom as well as field environment and covers a wide variety of specific work related subjects. Fall Protection, Trenching/Excavation, Infection/Moisture Control, Hearing Awareness, Scaffolding and Electrical Hazards are just a few of the main areas of focus. Additionally, Infection Control mandates via the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the OSHA 10 & 30 Hour and CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED Training is provided to our Foreman, Superintendents and Project Managers.


There are times when an individual subcontractor is in need of assistance with some of the many aspects of work hazards on a jobsite. Summit can provide for assistance via our safety staff, with the development of a safety program or the training of personnel in various safety related topics. This includes the ability to train the subcontractor personnel in a wide variety of safety specific topics as well as all of the areas mentioned above.


We also invest heavily in a safety incentive program recognizing the safety achievements of all employees to further promote participation in our safety "culture". Participation is maintained through the tracking of "Leading Indicators". These include Near-Miss Reporting Program, Daily Job Hazard Analysis as well as Weekly Project Specific Safety Plans. Our goal at Summit is to maintain our ZERO injury status, thus ensuring everyone goes home injury-free!


Summit also continues a strong presence in the ABC/CCS Substance Abuse Program. Testing of employees is on a pre-employment, random, post incident, reasonable suspicion and annual basis.


The Summit Safety Committee reviews and shares the latest Near-Miss incidents and safety related hazards/programs as well as suggestions by field and office personnel. The Committee is formulated using one person from each level of employee (Tradesman, Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, Safety Staff, Office Staff, CEO, President). This ensures total coverage and subjective contribution of the entire company.
